Learning Goals

We believe that children of nursery age should learn through play and having fun, but that if this is provided to them in a structured manner the learning goals will be achieved. Here we draw a distinction between teaching and learning. Although we do not follow Montessori methods we agree with a particular aspect of Dr Maria Montessori’s principle.

“Never let a child risk failure until he has a reasonable chance of success.”

These goals can be classified within desirable outcomes or learning goals as documented by the SCAA. Information in these can be found on the leaflet enclosed at the back of this prospectus.

The vast majority of a child’s day is occupied by play. However, we believe strongly in planning and our experience is that properly planned play produces great results and our generous staff/ child ratios aid individual development. Our programme is evaluated daily so as to ensure that so as to ensure that it serves the needs of each individual child.

Regular observation.

We believe in regular observation and individual monitoring of a child's development and very strong links with parents so that we may check that we are meeting the child's needs. Parents are welcome to telephone to enquire about or to visit their children during the day and there are regular parents evenings.
